How to Get to Bansko from the UK | Total Chalets Travel Guide

How to Get to Bansko from the UK – Flight and Transfer Guide

Planning your ski holiday in Bansko? Here’s everything you need to know about travelling from the UK to Bansko, including which airports fly direct to Sofia, and how to get from Sofia to resort easily and comfortably.

Direct Flights from the UK to Sofia

Bansko’s nearest airport is Sofia International Airport (SOF) — around 2 hours drive from resort.
There are direct flights from multiple UK airports all winter, with both budget and full-service airlines offering daily options.

✈️ Direct flights to Sofia operate from:

  • London Heathrow – British Airways, Air Bulgaria

  • London Gatwick – easyJet, Wizz Air, British Airways

  • London Luton – Wizz Air

  • London Stansted – Ryanair

  • Manchester – easyJet

  • Bristol – easyJet

  • Liverpool – Ryanair

  • Birmingham – Ryanair
  • Newcastle – TUI
  • Edinburgh – Ryanair

The flight time is around 3 hours typically.

Transfers from Sofia to Bansko

Once you land in Sofia, the easiest way to reach Bansko is by private or shared transfer.
The drive takes around 2 hours, passing through scenic mountain valleys.

At Total Chalets, one group return airport transfer is included with your stay, and wherever possible we combine arrivals/departures to make transfers more economical and environmentally friendly. We include return transfers on Saturdays and are flexible with shuttle timings to best match your flight schedules.

If you have chosen a mid-week arrival/departure, or members of your group are landing at different times and you need additional transfers, these are available from as little as £20 per person (one way).

Travel Tips

  • Arrivals: Sofia Airport has two terminals (T1 for budget airlines, T2 for full-service). Your driver will meet you at the arrivals exit.
  • Currency: As of 1st January 2026, Bulgaria uses the EURO – you can withdraw cash from ATMs on arrival or use cards in most places.
  • Arrival flights: We recommend landing around lunchtime as this allows us to take you to the rental centre before dinner. This means you are ready to get to morning lessons quickly on your first ski day!
  • Return flights: We recommend booking return flights that depart after 10am if you’re travelling back on a Saturday, to allow for transfer time from resort.
